One of the questions we're asked most often is why our signature spice tins are wrapped in silk sari fabric.
The answer starts with family.
When Spice Kitchen began in 2012, we wanted to create something that celebrated not just the flavours of India, but also the stories, traditions and memories that sit behind them. Wrapping our spice tins in recycled sari fabric felt like the perfect way to do that. Each tin is unique, colourful and filled with character, just like the people and stories that inspired it.
Over the years, those sari-wrapped tins have become our most recognisable product. But today, they represent something else too.
For every sari-wrapped spice tin sold, we make a donation through our partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, helping to provide school meals for children in India and the UK.
Recently, we were delighted to make our latest donation of more than £1,000, thanks to the support of our customers.
It's a milestone we're incredibly proud of, not because of the number itself, but because of what those donations help to achieve.
Food and education are deeply connected.
For many children around the world, hunger can be one of the biggest barriers to learning. It's difficult to concentrate in class, participate fully or fulfil your potential when you're worrying about where your next meal is coming from.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation works to address that challenge by providing nutritious meals that encourage school attendance and support children's education. It's a simple idea with a powerful impact: when children have access to food, they're better able to learn, grow and build brighter futures.
As a food business, this partnership felt like a natural fit.
Food has always been at the heart of everything we do. We spend our days talking about recipes, ingredients, family meals and the joy that cooking can bring. But we also recognise that access to food isn't something everybody can take for granted.
That's why we've always wanted our products to contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
When somebody buys one of our sari-wrapped spice tins, they're not just purchasing a gift or adding a new ingredient to their kitchen. They're also helping to support a programme that ensures children have access to the nourishment they need to learn.
It's a small action that becomes part of something much larger.
To everyone who has chosen one of our spice tins over the years, thank you.
Your support helps us continue doing what we love as a family business, while also contributing to a cause that genuinely changes lives.
One tin. One meal.
A simple idea, but one that reminds us how food can connect people across continents, communities and generations.
