Receiving this recognition was a wonderful milestone for our small family business.
Great Taste is one of the world’s most trusted food and drink accreditation schemes, with every product judged through a rigorous blind-tasting process. Over the years, our spice blends, spiced chocolates and hot chocolates have received a WHOPPING 16 Great Taste stars.
It’s recognition that means so much to us because it celebrates what has always been at the heart of Spice Kitchen: exceptional ingredients, carefully balanced flavours and spices that make home cooking genuinely joyful.
In 2026, Spice Kitchen was named Community Champion at the Not On The High Street Small Brand Awards.
And this one felt particularly special because it recognised the values behind our products as well as the products themselves. Community has never been a separate initiative for us; it is woven into the way Spice Kitchen works. Our sari wraps give donated and upcycled fabrics a beautiful new life, while creating flexible, meaningful employment for our sari-wrapping team.
Through our partnership with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, every sari-wrapped spice tin sold also helps to provide a school meal for a child in India. The award celebrates this whole community: our team, customers, independent retailers, charity partners and everyone who has helped us use food and spice to bring people together.
As a small family business, being named a finalist in the London Packaging Week Innovation Awards felt particularly special.
We don’t have enormous design budgets, a huge creative department or a glamorous agency on speed dial. What we do have is a brilliant small team, a very talented freelance designer and a strong sense of what we love, and, hopefully, what our customers will love too.
Our Feasting Kits were created collaboratively, combining beautiful design with everything needed to make cooking and sharing extraordinary food feel simple and joyful. To see them recognised alongside packaging created by much bigger brands was an incredibly proud moment and a lovely reminder that you don’t always need the biggest budget or the biggest team to create something that resonates.
In 2024, we were delighted to receive family business recognition from the Federation of Small Businesses.
Spice Kitchen began as a conversation between Sanjay and his mum, Shashi, on Christmas Day 2012, so being celebrated as a family business was particularly meaningful. Although the business has grown, that same sense of family, warmth and shared purpose still runs through everything we do.
And of course, when in 2026 we appeared on Dragons' Den together, this message was well and truly cemented as the Dragons' told us to protect the very thing that makes us special.
Awards are wonderful, but none of them would be possible without our customers, stockists, collaborators and the brilliant people behind Spice Kitchen. Thank you for cooking with us, gifting our tins and helping our family business share the joy of spice far and wide.
